Enigma

 

If a whisky was to give a nod of “appreciation” to the history of The Riverbourne Distillery, then Enigma Single Malt is this nod and epicentre of historical importance for Martin and Eileen Pye.

 

Since the first spirit flowed out of Riverbourne stills, there have only been two Enigma releases. Each Enigma Single Malt celebrates an achievement in maturation and flavour, with the 1st Enigma Edition being crowned “Drink Easy’s Best Whisky” in 2019.

Presented at cask-strength, Enigma opens with aged oak, seasoned timber notes, and the aroma of leather-bound books. When teased to liberate its true personality, Enigma flourishes hints of red fruits, nuanced fortified wine-style flavours, almonds and a deep, caramel-toffee edge. If one could coin the term for the utmost experience of Enigma, it would be “evolution”, as the whisky evolves in the glass each minute of rest it is generously given.
